The country-wide list of the specialized epilepsy diagnosis, treatment, and counseling facilities is published by the German Society for Epileptology (DGfE) in cooperation with the MICHAEL FOUNDATION.
When the MICHAEL FOUNDATION was founded in 1962, there were only two specialized epilepsy outpatient departments attached to university hospitals: One for children in Kiel and one for adults in Heidelberg. Today, there are hundreds of specialized epilepsy services. Part of this success is thanks to the activities of the MICHAEL FOUNDATION, namely its stipends and qualification of staff, and the regularly updated information about qualified treatment and care. This led to an awareness of better social opportunities and careers with qualified treatment and counseling.
